Spring Skiing Magic at Marble Mountain

With spring just around the corner, most people in Western Newfoundland are ready for the snow to melt. NOT ME! Not the skiing community! Spring skiing means the best conditions of the season at Marble Mountain, why would we want it to end?!

Wintery Humber Valley

My ski days start earlier than my work days, with wake up at 6am to pack gear, walk Bubbles (my Husky), make lunch and breakfast, start the car and usually shovel before even leaving for the hill. Thankfully Marble is just 15min from my door, so catching first chair is pretty easy!

Driving through the Humber Valley on sunny winter morning is magical! The sun peaks out over the mountains, turning the Blow Me Downs and Bay of Islands a soft pink while mist rises off the Humber River and the air sparkles, promising a great day ahead.

First tracks in the morning can be cold but clear skies keep spirits high as we all know single digit degrees are on the way.

Corkscrew or Bonavista are usually my first runs of the day. Slashing first tracks on brand new corduroy always gets me. But OMJ is my favourite run on the hill, it is nice and wide, groomed and has just the right pitch that allows you to really lay an edge in. I like to stop about half way down, sit on the side of the run and take in the view, you can see the whole valley from here! When I take the time to stop, pause and behold this place I now call home, I am reminded again and again of the beauty, the lure of the wildness, and the magic that is Newfoundland.

The last couple of years I have skied Marble, March has always been the best month for skiing. The days are longer and getting warmer, plus the conditions of the hill are awesome!

Heading across Humber View to the west side.

Can you see why I love winter and early spring in NL? Blue bird days, lots of snow, single digit degrees, oh..did I mention the views and short lift lines?! Spring skiing rocks!

If you haven’t been out east to the west coast of Newfoundland to ski, you’re missing out!  So if your wanting some epic spring skiing, look no further than right here… Marble Mountain Resort.
